 |
Dr. Bernard D. Adelstein is an engineer in the Human Factors Research and Technology Division at the NASA Ames Research Center and has been affiliated with the Advanced Displays and Spatial Perception Laboratory at Ames since 1991. He received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from M.I.T. in 1989. Dr. Adelstein's current interests center on the assessment and modeling of human-system performance in multisensory virtual environments, haptic interface design, kinematics of spatial mechanisms, and mechatronics.
Dr. Adelstein has been designing, building, and using haptic interfaces for human performance research since 1978, with a number of contemporary commercial force-feel devices having been influenced by his designs. He co-founded the Annual Symposium on Haptic Interfaces for Virtual Environments and Teleoperation in 1992 and currently serves on the editorial boards of Presence and Haptics-e.
