NASA provided both intellectual vision for the
development of PDARS and significant seed money for its initial stages.
The FAA Office of System Capacity has taken the system nation-wide.
Success has been achieved through collaboration with FAA and NATCA
personnel at participating ATC facilities. Collaboration entails an
iterative process as users gain experience with PDARS and develop
the customized installations at each site. The results have been enthusiastically
embraced by each of the participating facilities and by higher levels
of the FAA. |

|
| Networking plays a key role in the
function of PDARS. Data must be accessed nationally and at each facility,
analysis tools provided and maintained from a central facility, and
results shared among participating facilities. The network enables
routine daily tasks and reports. Each day, the PDARS system: |
| |
|
- collects flight plan and radar-track data
- filters to insure data quality
- concatenates same-flight radar tracks from multiple radar installations
- processes and analyzes the data automatically according to needs
of each facility
- provides customized daily performance reports to the managers
of these facilities prior to their morning multiple-facility telecons.
