Dr. Stephen Ellis Wins IEEE VR 2008 Conference "Best Short Paper" Award

Dr. Stephen Ellis' co-authored paper entitled "User bore-sighting for AR calibration: a preliminary analysis" won the IEEE Virtual Reality (VR) 2008 conference "Best Short Paper" award. The same research group was also nominated for a "Best Full Paper" award for "Managing Visual Clutter: A Generalized Technique for Label Segregation using Stereoscopic Disparity". Both papers were published in the proceedings. Along with the nomination, Dr. Ellis received an invitation to submit an extended paper to the Elsevier journal, "Computers and Graphics." The IEEE VR 2008 conference was held in Reno, Nevada, and focused on original, high-quality research in all areas of virtual environments, as well as augmented reality, mixed reality and 3D User Interfaces. The paper’s authors are Magnus Axholt and Stephen Peterson of Linköping University-Norköping Campus/Eurocontrol Experimental Centre and Stephen R. Ellis of NASA Ames Research Center.
