The SFRM Working Group, which includes a Human Systems Integration Division researcher, receives the United Space Alliance's Quest for Excellence Award
(Dec 15, 2008)
On December 15, 2008, the United Space Alliance (USA) recognized the work of the International Space Station (ISS) Space Flight Resource Management (SFRM) Working group (WG) with a Quest for Excellence Award for safety at Johnson Space Center (JSC). According to the JSC award description, the working group "developed a team skills training program second to none in the military, industry or academia."

The goal of the ISS SFRM WG is to improve individual and team performance for ISS flight controllers. The team is comprised of SFRM Instructors, Flight Controllers, Dr. Immanuel Barshi as a Human Factors researcher from Ames Research Center, and Dr. Lacey Schmidt as an Industrial-Organizational psychologist with Wyle Labs. The program the team developed will assist the Expedition Vehicle Division in reducing overall training times by 50% and integrated simulation times by 75-90%, while increasing the quality of team skills of new flight controllers.

The SFRM effort was one of the initiatives highlighted in NASA's Quality & Excellence Award, the George M. Low Award presentation.
