Design Considerations for Stand-alone Haptic Interfaces Communicating via UDP Protocol  (2005)
Abstract Header
The paper describes implementation of a high-speed Internet protocol for communication between a portable haptic interface and an external personal computer that controls the device. The haptic interface itself is a passively mass-balanced version of a three degree-of-freedom force-feedback joystick architecture, invented previously by Adelstein (US Patent. 5,816,105). The mathematical procedure for designing a passively balanced device was also developed by Adelstein at Ames.
